Time Flies

So yesterday evening I thought it was about time to post something new on the blog. To refresh my memory on what I'd last posted I checked the page. I can't believe that today is May 4 and that my last post was on Tuesday, April 17! I knew it has been a while but I didn't think it was more than two weeks.

All of this just reminded me of how quickly life passes us by. It seemed like when I was a kid that unless I was doing something really fun, the days just crawled by -- especially during school. I always hated it (and it is still a bit annoying) when someone older than me would say, "Just you wait, son. Time flies when you get older. Your life will be over with before you know it." They're right, of course.

The older we get, the more responsibilities we have, which takes more time. That keeps us busy. If we're busy then our mind doesn't entertain the thought, "I wonder what time it is." very often. Then we look and, wow!, the day is gone. String several of those days together and a week has passed...then a month...then a year...then a lifetime.

Now that familiar verse from James rings in my ears:

"For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away." (James 4:14b)

The key in all of this is, "What am I busy doing? Are these things really making a difference? Am I completing the somewhat-important and leaving the most-important undone?"

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some stuff to do...like rest.
